Comparison
StrandRestore vs Jane App
Jane App is for licensed clinics carrying patient charts across many visits, while StrandRestore is for a retail fitting studio with one claim per client.
Comparison
Vagaro suits a business whose day is booked appointments and retail tickets, while StrandRestore suits a studio whose day ends with a claim to file.
Vagaro is a salon and spa platform, and it thinks in appointments, staff columns, retail tickets and consumer discovery. If your studio is mostly styling chairs with a wig wall attached, that shape fits your week. StrandRestore thinks in fittings and claims instead. The record is the cap measurement set, the vendor order behind it, and the cranial prosthesis letter your client submits to her carrier, followed through remake and reimbursement. Pick us if the insurance side is the part that keeps you at the desk after close, and pick Vagaro if the calendar is.
| What you are deciding | StrandRestore | Vagaro |
|---|---|---|
| What a record is about | A fitting: circumference, front to nape, ear to ear, cap construction, density and the pattern of loss. | An appointment on a staff calendar with the sale attached to the ticket. |
| Cranial prosthesis letter | Generated from the fitting record with the L8000 line, prescribing physician details and the itemized invoice. | Built for salon services and retail rather than payer paperwork. |
| Claim status | A dated log per claim: submitted, pended, denied, appealed, paid, with the next follow up date. | Outside the scope of a booking and marketing platform. |
| Vendor orders and remakes | Order number, vendor, lead time and remake history sit on the client record. | Stock is modeled as retail inventory rather than a made to order unit per client. |
| Scope | One trade, one workflow, nothing you will not use. | Broad across salons, spas, barbers and fitness, with marketing and a consumer marketplace. |
| Bench size | An owner and a small bench, in one or two locations. | Comfortable with larger benches, payroll and commission structures. |
| Price | $45 a month for Single Studio, $95 for Studio Plus, $189 for Two Locations. | Published on their own site, so check current plans there. |
| First afternoon | Enter one client, take five measurements, print a letter before she leaves. | More to configure, because the platform covers many kinds of business. |
What follows on the right is the shape of Vagaro as a category: the workflow it assumes and the buyer it is written for. Any product moves on, so confirm the live details on their own pages first. StrandRestore is published by MLJ, SASU and this page is written by Jimenez Julien.
A ninety minute pre chemotherapy consultation produces data that has to survive for months: cap circumference, front to nape, ear to ear, nape width, the client's own density and color before treatment, and the decision about lace front or monofilament top. Salon software gives you a notes box for all of it. That works until she comes back in June, the unit has loosened as her scalp changed, and you need to know what you ordered in February.
StrandRestore makes those numbers first class fields rather than free text, because they get reused. They go on the vendor order, they justify the remake, and they show up in the itemized invoice a carrier reads. Vagaro is not built to do that and does not claim to be. It is built so a business with several chairs can fill them.
The part of your week that no booking calendar touches is the claim. A physician writes a prescription, sometimes with the wrong wording. You issue an itemized invoice separating the prosthesis from cosmetic add ons. You write the studio letter that ties the diagnosis to the unit. Then you wait, and you call, and you appeal.
That sequence is the whole reason StrandRestore exists, so the claim log carries dates, payer, submission method and outcome, and the letter is regenerated from the fitting record rather than retyped. If you evaluate Vagaro for this, evaluate it honestly as a calendar and a register, which is what a salon platform is for.
Draw the line by where your revenue comes from. A studio where most of the money is cut, color and blowouts with a wig service alongside should buy salon software and keep a paper claim folder. A studio where most of the money is prosthesis units, alopecia clients and oncology referrals should buy something that treats the claim as the product.
There is also a middle case: a salon owner who has quietly become the hair loss studio in her county. Plenty of those owners run both, keeping the calendar where it is and adding StrandRestore for the fitting and claim side. That is a normal setup and we do not try to talk anyone out of the tool that already fills their chairs.
Yes, and many studios do. StrandRestore is the fitting and claim record, not a public booking page. If your calendar already works, leave it alone and use us for the measurements, the order and the letter.
It tracks the prosthesis order and the itemized invoice around it, including how cosmetic add ons are separated from the claimable line. A full retail register with barcode scanning is not what we built. Studios with a large accessory wall usually run a card terminal or a salon platform for that side.
Two Locations at $189 a month covers both studios with a shared client and claim record, which matters when a client is fitted at one and picks up at the other. Beyond two locations you are into territory where a larger platform makes more sense for scheduling. The claim work still stays with us for most of those studios.

Square Appointments suits a studio that mainly needs a calendar and a card reader, while StrandRestore suits one whose real work is the fitting record and the claim.
A head to head reads differently once you have seen a cranial prosthesis letter generated from a fitting record instead of retyped. Bring one client file with the measurements and the prescription in it, and we will build the letter, the itemized invoice line and the claim log while you watch. Twenty minutes is usually enough to know which of the two belongs in your studio.
