Jimenez Julien, the person behind StrandRestore

I build small, exact software for owner run businesses. StrandRestore is the one I wrote for wig studios, and I answer the email address at the bottom of this page myself.

Why I built a tool for wig studios

I did not come to this trade through hair. I came to it through paperwork. In 2023 I was helping a small clinic group in the United States clean up how it handled reimbursement documents, and one of the people I interviewed was a wig studio owner in Ohio who supplied several of their oncology patients. She showed me her process: a paper card with seven measurements, a supplier email thread, and a Microsoft Word file called letter_final_v4 that she edited for every client. She had been doing this for fourteen years. She was very good at her job and she was losing an entire evening a week to a document she should never have had to retype.

That conversation is the whole origin of StrandRestore. I spent the following months on the phone and in fitting rooms with studio owners in nine states, watching consultations with permission, and reading the letters that carriers had accepted and the ones that had come back. What I learned quickly is that this trade does not need more software. It needs less of it, arranged correctly. Owners were not asking for dashboards. They were asking for the measurements to still be there in eighteen months, for the order status to be visible to the assistant, and for the letter to carry the right words without being rebuilt from the previous client's file.

What I learned about this work

Three things changed how I designed the product. First, the appointment is emotional, and the software has to stay out of the room. That is why the measurement sheet is one screen, in the order a fitter actually takes the numbers, and why nothing in the interface asks the client to look at a screen while she is deciding whether she can face a mirror. Second, the letter is not a formality. For many clients it is the difference between a unit she can afford and a unit she cannot, and the reasons it fails are boring and fixable: a missing date of service, a missing diagnosis reference, a description that says wig instead of cranial prosthesis. Third, studios lose money quietly. Not through bad selling, but through second fittings nobody booked and claims nobody followed.

So the product is narrow on purpose. It is a fitting record, an order board, a letter builder and a claim log. It does not try to be your booking site, your point of sale or your accountant, and it exports cleanly to whatever you already use for those.

How I work with studio owners

I run a short call with every studio that asks for one, and I do those calls myself rather than handing them to a sales team, because I would rather hear the objection directly. Roughly once a month I sit in on a real fitting day with a studio that has offered, and every product decision larger than a label change goes past three owners before it ships. When something in the letter wording needs to change because a carrier changed what it accepts, that reaches me from a studio, not from a market report.

Experience and expertise

  • Founder and publication director of MLJ, SASU, registered in Paris, publishing a focused portfolio of business software for small operators.
  • Twelve years building record keeping and document generation systems, with the last four spent entirely on regulated and reimbursement heavy workflows.
  • Field research in wig studios and hair loss boutiques across nine US states, including hospital referred oncology programs.
  • Direct responsibility for the letter templates in StrandRestore, reviewed against real carrier correspondence submitted by studios who use them.

How this product is built and maintained

StrandRestore ships small changes often rather than large releases rarely, and every change is written against a real studio request logged with a date and a name. Copy on this site is written by hand and reviewed for accuracy: numbers quoted on the home page come from aggregated studio reporting, and I will send the method behind any figure to anyone who asks. Nothing on this site is generated automatically or published without a human read.

Editorially, I hold two rules. The first is that we never claim a reimbursement outcome, because no vendor controls a carrier decision. The second is that we do not use client medical information for anything except the studio's own record. Security work, backups and access logging are reviewed quarterly, and if we ever have an incident affecting studio data, affected accounts hear it from me directly within seventy two hours.
